The apple of your eye refers to the pupil, the centre of your eye and essential for good vision. Asking God to keep us there and declaring that we are the apple of God's eye means he always has us in his sight.
Proud fathers talk of their children being the 'apple of their eye.' God is so proud of each one of us. Even the best fathers in the world are nothing like our heavenly Father. This year let us determine to change our thinking about God our Father and realise that we have an adoring Father who is not cross with us and is not waiting to smack our hands or yell at us. God may not like some of the things we do but he loves us and he is ready, willing and able to change us as we trust him. Even wilful children he will discipline in love not out of anger.
Pray for a change of vision and let this truth that we are the apple of his eye - he is so proud of each one of us - infiltrate our hearts. We are too often focused on the things we have done wrong in a mistaken belief that God is interested in them too. Once forgiven, they really are forgotten by God. We need to take our eyes off ourselves and our faults and weaknesses and put our eyes on the one who not only loves, approves and accepts us but will also lovingly work in our hearts and lives in the best possible way for us.
He doesn't have his eye on us so he can jump on us when we get things worng. His eye is on us to constantly bathe us in his love and to watch over each of his precious children. We are indeed the apple of his eye.
